About Cape Elizabeth, ME
Originally part of Falmouth (now Portland), Cape Elizabeth became an independent town in 1765. For over 250 years it’s been a small village getaway from the hustle of the city, with long stretches of pristine beach and parklands and five miles of distance from the noise and traffic of the surrounding major highways. The famous Portland Head Light – the most photographed lighthouse in the world – is located here, as well as some of the most beautiful country in southern Maine.
This small town is more than just looks, however. It has produced several famous personalities, including Olympian Joan Benoit Samuelson and movie director John Ford, and it’s public school system regularly produces the top test results in the state.
